Bedroom Design Mistakes People Make And How To Correct Them

Date:

As the popular saying goes, people spend about one-third of their lives in bed. This is to show the importance of a bedroom in the home and this leads us to bedroom design.

This article outlines the common bedroom design mistakes people make as well as what you can do to correct these mistakes. Stop making these bedroom design mistakes, and you’ll be that much happier about your sleep space.

Having too many pillows or very few pillows on your bed.

Balance is key here. Although personal preference matters, it is a common mistake for people to have tons of pillows on their bed or too few pillows.

While having many pillows on the bed can clutter the space, having few pillows can make a bed look unfinished and forgotten. Getting the perfect balance of pillows for aesthetic and function is key. It is advisable that you take the size of the bed into consideration to know how many pillows would fit just right.

The Bed is Too Big

Some people buy such oversized beds without considering the bedroom size first. Except you have an extremely large bedroom that gives you plenty of room to play with, don’t do this. When you have a bed that’s too big, it would leave you without a walking room or wardrobe and storage space.

Therefore, opt for a bed that is appropriate in dimension to the dimension of your bedroom. You don’t have to strive to cover so much space with your bed when designing your bedroom.

Loud Colours

Quite alright, you do not want your bedroom to be boring, but you need to make sure it doesn’t end up looking like a toy store because of the bold colours.

Some people make the mistake of painting their bedroom with bold and loud colours such as orange, red, yellow and so on. These colours are not ideal bedroom colours, they are more suited for rooms in your home that are known for high energy activities such as kitchen and dining areas.

Studies have shown that colours like blue hues help you sleep better and make your bedroom more soothing. If you are into shades of blue, consider neutral colours or earth tones. Any mild colour would do.

Matchy Furniture

This is yet another bedroom design mistake people make. Good designers will tell you not to buy a full bedroom set, that is the one that comes with an all-inclusive bed, bedside table, dresser, and mirror combos. This is because as much as it looks awkward, it takes away personality from time-space and a bedroom is meant to be your safe space.

Consider getting your bed, nightstands and tables individually and assemble them yourself.

Layout blocking natural light sources

Some people do not know that any time they put something in front of a window, the natural lighting takes a hit. When designing your bedroom it is advisable that you do not block where your natural lighting comes in from. Your layout should be set up in such a way that you have natural light sources.

However, if for any reason, you must block any natural lighting, have alternative sources to make up for it.

No Place To Sit

One bedroom design element many people fail to consider is a place to sit. While you don’t need to create an all-out bedroom seating area with multiple furniture pieces, a single chair is nice to have. It gives you a place to put on or take off shoes, lay out the next day’s outfit and so on. You can either decide to get a single arm chair and put it in a corner in the bedroom, or you can get a bench and place near your bed.

No mirror

This one is a major bedroom design mistake because mirrors are important. Mirrors in a bedroom are necessary for outfit checks and getting ready without them is a struggle. They also reflect light and help make your room feel larger and beautiful.

You could either get a full-length mirror hung on the back of your door or a floor mirror leaning against your wall and if you prefer a smaller mirror, you can hang one over your dresser.
